This 1966 Fender Precision Bass is a piece of New Orleans (and really the world’s) musical history. If you are looking for a truly exceptional vintage P-Bass, look no further.
Owned by famous NO bass master Jack Cruz since he got it brand new in 1966 at the age of 15 years old. Jack made a life with this instrument, playing, recording, and touring the world with all the New Orleans titans. James Booker, Professor Longhair, Huey “Piano” Smith, Allen Toussaint. Dr. John, as well as a a decades long stint as a member of Walter “Wolfman” Washington’s band “the Roadmasters”. Jack played and toured with Wofman Washington from 1986 until his passing in 2022.

As a working musicians primary tool, this bass has seen changes and repairs over the years that reflect the extensive use it’s seen. The pickups have been swapped. So has the bridge and the pots, plus some other pieces of hardware. What has not changed is its legendary tone. Jack describes what makes this bass so extraordinary in an interview that can be found on our website in the product description!

This 1967 Fender Telecaster Custom features the original blonde finish with black binding. This combination is often referred to by collectors as “tuxedo” finish. Post CBS Telecasters are known for being brighter and having more twang than the earlier models. However, each guitar is always slightly different. These guitars are exceedingly rare! Pictured behind the guitar is a 1965 Marshall JTM45 with an original radio spares cloth 4x12 cabinet. The cab has 4 original 15w Alnico Celestions speakers dated to 1964. (Not For Sale)

1952 Fender Esquire pictured with a 1963 Marshall JTM 45!

We’ve had quite a few “blackguards” go through our hands here at Scruff’s Vintage, but this gorgeous 1952 Esquire is a standout. Straight from the arsenal of guitarist/songwriter extraordinaire David Grissom, this beauty has it all. A beautifully aged deep original butterscotch finish, a perfect feeling neck, light weight, and a tone that exemplifies just why these early Fenders are so sought after. Esquires tend to have a little extra magic over their Telecaster siblings, and this one is no exception. Loud, muscular, with so much detail and character, it’s hard to put this guitar down.
This Esquire is fully original, just as it left the Fender factory in Fullerton, CA in 1952. It even still has its original frets that are still very much playable. A no-issues early Esquire is a blue chip guitar that no serious vintage guitar collection can be complete without. But the beauty of this particular example is that it has just enough honest mileage on it to make it a spectacular player as well.

This guitar comes with its original leather gig bag and “ash tray” bridge cover

This beautiful 1953 Fender Telecaster is the quintessential "blackguard". It sounds particularly good, is light weight, and has a great feeling, medium big neck very typical of a '53. The Telecaster really came together in 1953, and this particular guitar is a prime example of that.
In 1953 Fender switched from the earlier "blend" style wiring to employ a tone control. This makes '53s particularly usable, as the stock wiring offers all the "modern" Tele sounds. Yes, the front position of the pickup selector is still the dark preset Leo Fender envisioned to simulate a bass instrument, but the middle position is the neck pickup by itself, the rear position is the bridge pickup by itself. Just like on a 3-way switch equipped stock Strat, you can find the spot between neck and bridge pickups that allows for both of them to be on together. The actual tone control missing on 1952 and earlier Teles is particularly useful and something most Telecaster players use to thicken up the sound.
This Telecaster is fully original as it left the factory, except for a fairly recent refret by Holger Notzel and a new bone nut. Fret wire is Jescar nickel silver .090 wide by .047 tall, a nice medium size wire that make string bending a breeze.
This 1953 Tele comes with its original "thermometer' form fit case and bridge cover.

Fender Stratocasters from the last quarter of 1956 are a favorite of ours. Built after the switch from ash to alder as the body wood, this period produced a run of consistently great sounding Strats.
This guitar is a perfect example of that era. It sounds big and clear, with strong pickups and a full, balanced sound. We sometimes refer to
Strats of that period as "the grand pianos of Strats". Deep lows, shimmery trebles, and beautifully clear, supremely "stratty" #2 and #4 pickup positions. Which you have to "find" on this guitar, as it still retains its original 3-way switch. The bridge pickup is a thing of beauty, too. Strong and almost Tele-like.
If you have heard Eric Clapton's "Brownie" Strat from the Derek and the Dominos period, you heard a late '56 Strat. This guitar has that sound. Another example of this tone would be Anson Funderburgh's old Strat. Listen to some Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets recordings and you can hear what the bridge pickup of a good late '56 Strat can do.
Everything on this guitar is original, except for a fairly recent refret and a new bone nut done by Holger Notzel. Fret wire is Jescar nickel silver .090 wide by .047 tall, a nice medium size wire that make string bending a breeze. The guitar is perfectly set up with .010s and a floating tremolo.
This Strat comes with its original tweed case and is available on our website.
Behind the guitar stands an original 1965 JTM50 MKIII with 2 2x12 PA columns. This amp will be available for customers to rent in our future studio!

Here we have a custom ordered 1972 EDS-1275 and a custom ordered 1968 EBS-1250. The EBS-1250 can be heard on a 1968 recording by “The Naturals”! The Naturals were a late 60s psychedelic rock group that had many similarities to early Pink Floyd. The EBS-1250 has been modified with a second output jack that is directly wired to the guitars pickups and controls, while the original output jack has been wired directly to the Bass pickup and controls! This unique configuration allows you to utilize two amplifiers at once. One for your bass and one for your guitar.. add a looper pedal and you are on your way to create some beautiful music!
Holding up these beasts are two JTM45s one from 1966 and one from 1963!
