To everyone who took the time to nominate Shelf Indulgence for the Intentionalist Awards: thank you. Somewhere in your day, you thought of us. You sat down and told someone why our little bookstore matters to you. That is such a generous, beautiful thing to do.⁠

When we opened our doors, we hoped people would find themselves in the books on our shelves and feel comfortable being themselves in the space around them. We hoped you’d come in for a story and find people you could share yours with.⁠

Every time you stay a little longer to talk, bring a friend in for their first visit, or tell us you feel welcome here, you remind us why this work matters. To know that some of you thought of us for an award called Heart of the Community is something we’ll hold onto for a long time.⁠

We somehow forgot to cross-post this here, so Facebook… meet Chapter Two. 🔑📚

Shelf Indulgence has grown faster, bigger, and more beautifully than I ever could have imagined, and with that growth has come a very real problem: we are running out of room.

Right now, we don’t have a dedicated stock room or fulfillment space, which means we’re constantly working between publisher restocks, limited backstock, and trying to fulfill orders from a space that was never really built for this volume.

So we launched Keys to Chapter Two.

The goal is to help us take the next step: secure dedicated fulfillment and stock space, carry deeper inventory, hire fulfillment support, and make even more room for indie and marginalized authors on our shelves.

And because asking for help is deeply uncomfortable for me, yes, I absolutely posted this originally and then wanted to throw my phone across the room. 😂 But this store means too much to me not to try.

Shelf Indulgence has become so much more than a bookstore. It has become a community, a safe little corner for readers, a place where people find stories that make them feel seen, and something I care about more than I can probably explain in a Facebook caption.

✨ ONCE UPON A TIME… WE OPENED A BOOKSTORE. ✨

And somehow, almost one whole year later, we get to say:

Shelf Indulgence is turning ONE.

So for our anniversary, we’re leaning all the way into the magic of this first year with a theme that feels especially fitting…

🍂📖 THIS HAS BEEN A FAIRYTALE 📖🍂

On October 3rd & 4th, our little corner of Tacoma is becoming an autumn storybook featuring warm vintage oranges, deep greens, old books, pressed florals, woodland details, handwritten love letters, aged paper, ribbons and all the cozy, lived-in magic of a fairytale you found tucked away on a bookshelf.

There will be authors. There will be treats. There will be wishes to make, love letters to leave, little bits of magic tucked throughout the store, giveaways, surprises, and plenty we’re keeping secret for now.

Because a year ago, Shelf Indulgence was just a story we were hoping someone might want to read.

Then YOU showed up.

You filled our shelves, our events, our book clubs and our hearts. You told your friends. You stood in lines. You celebrated authors. You found new favorite books and, somewhere between all those pages, this little bookstore became a community.

You made the fairytale real.
