Juneteenth marks the anniversary of June 19, 1865 when Union Soldiers arrived in Texas and freed more than 250.000 enslaved people.
They had not been freed after the Emancipation Proclamation because Texas remained under confederate control.
Long commemorated in African-American communities, Juneteenth now is a day of celebration, and acts as a reminder of the work we have to do going forward to support equality!
