Do you need an optometrist or an ophthalmologist?
Good news! We have both here at Tampa Eye Clinic and they rotate around our three locations.
Optometrists are Doctors of Optometry (ODs). Think of them as your primary eye care provider. They can see you annually like a physical! Our optometrists can help you keep your glasses and contact prescriptions up to date, see you for eye health emergencies, manage chronic conditions such as dry eye syndrome, and more. Optometrists can manage your eye care until you need surgery or additional care, then they will get you set up with one of our ophthalmologists. Our optometrists accept a variety of both vision and medical insurance.
Ophthalmologists are MDs or DOs and often have areas they specialize in, such as pediatric ophthalmology, glaucoma, retina, cornea, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastics. Ophthalmologists can perform procedures and surgeries as they are indicated and monitor any eye health conditions. Our ophthalmologists at Tampa Eye Clinic are experienced, diverse, and ready to help any part of your eye.
