Cleaning and Conditioning Your Baseball Glove Are NOT the Same Thing

A lot of players treat glove cleaning and conditioning like they’re interchangeable. They aren’t.

Cleaning removes what doesn’t belong on the leather:
Dirt, dust, sweat, field clay, mud, and grime.

That’s where Leather Spot Cleaner comes in. If your glove is dirty, clean it first and let it dry completely.

Conditioning replaces what the leather has lost:
Natural oils and moisture that help keep the leather flexible and healthy.

That’s where Glove Lotion comes in. If the leather feels dry, stiff, or rough, a light application can help restore it.

The important part is the order:

Clean → Let Dry → Condition

And don’t condition a glove just because you’re doing maintenance. If the leather still feels healthy, it may not need anything.

A simple rule to remember:

If it’s dirty, clean it.
If it’s dry, condition it.

Using the right product for the right job can help your glove keep its shape, feel, and durability for years.
