A little Threaducation from King Threads…
Your Logo Has a Job to Do
Creating a logo for your business is exciting, but there’s more to a good logo than simply making something that looks cool. Your logo needs to work for your business.
One of the most important things to consider is whether your logo can be easily recreated across different types of media. A logo may look amazing on a computer screen, but what happens when you need it embroidered on a hat, screen printed on a shirt, engraved on a tumbler, cut from vinyl for a storefront, or printed small on a business card?
Tiny details, extremely thin lines, complicated shading, gradients, and too many colors can quickly become a problem. Some of those elements simply can't be reproduced accurately with certain decorating methods or they can make producing your branded items considerably more expensive.
A strong logo should be simple, recognizable, and versatile. It should look good in full color, but it should also still represent your business when printed in a single color or reduced to a small size.
Your logo should also give people an idea of who you are at a glance. You don't necessarily need to illustrate exactly what your business sells, but the style, fonts, colors, and imagery should make sense for your industry and the personality of your company.
Before approving a logo, ask yourself:
Does it still look good in black and white?
Can it be embroidered without losing important details?
Is it recognizable when it's only an inch or two wide?
Will it work on shirts, hats, signs, promotional products, and social media?
Does it fit the personality of my business?
Will someone looking at it understand the type of company I'm trying to represent?
Remember, your logo isn't just artwork—it's a tool. You're going to use it over and over again, hopefully for many years. Designing it with reproduction in mind from the beginning can save you money, prevent frustration, and give your business a much stronger and more consistent brand.
A beautiful logo is great. A beautiful logo that actually works everywhere you need it is even better.
