A nice before and after - some leather gets riveted so hard and close to the metal that it's almost detrimental to try and remove them. For this example I simply treated the remains of the straps and attached a scrap piece of hard tanned leather to several points of the straps to be buckled or tied onto a suit of armor or chainmail/gorget/gambeson.

So now the piece has multiple attachment points with several areas for tying or buckling, as well as more protection with the large piece of HTL.

This is a leather version of a helmet from the 15th century, not made by me (it looks more like an S*M toy)
Notice the edges are beginning to fray on the outer cuts. This can be remedied by preventative maintenance or a nice hot waxing which would stop the fray and make the whole thing much more safe from use and time, extending the life of the leather.

People often ask me "whats the difference between suede and leather?"
Suedes/Splits is simply leather that has had its top skin layer removed leaving only the softer supple layers of the inside. Basically it is leather with both sides being soft.
Suede treatments are somewhat different because it does not have the protective upper grain of the dermis layer. Leather still has the patterns of the outermost layer of the hide, depending on the type of leather.
Anyways... Its the perfect time of year to use preventitive maintenance, even if you are doing it yourself. Be sure to get the correct oils and coatings and gloss protection to make your leather have a much better and longer life.
While I am happy to help your boots and gloves by doing a good oiling and or a protecrive coating for suede, if you want to do it yourself i am happy to help with any questions you may have.
If it is leather - get neatsfooot oil - be careful though, it will darken lighter colors and dyes of leather. A little goes a long way.

1st post - Yeah i named it Snubs, can you repeat the question?

Get your old purses out of their coffins and bring them back to life, broken straps, loose/missing metal or loose stiching all can be fixed!

Get that awesome leather jacket you haven't worn in a few years looking brand new.

Get a coat of polish on some boots or shoes, and a layer or clear coat protectant to keep em looking good.

Your favorite Michael Kors bag missing some metal pieces? No problem.
