I let my granddaughter pick the design this year. 🎃

She pointed at this one and said, "Grandma, this is the Halloween quilt!". So I made it.
Now she's proudly showing it off to everyone who visits, and I have a feeling it'll come out of the closet every October for years to come. That's my favorite thing about quilting...

Every quilt I make carries a little story.
This one started with a simple request from my grandson: "Grandma, can you make me a quilt with a spider wearing a hat?" 🕷️🎩

So we picked out the fabrics together—spooky purple, pumpkin orange, a little creepy green, and lots of cozy neutrals. There were a few mistakes, plenty of seam ripping, and many evenings spent stitching... but every minute was worth it. The smile on his face when he saw it for the first time reminded me why I love quilting.
Quilts aren't just blankets. They're memories you can wrap yourself in.

My grandma made this Halloween quilt for me years ago, and somehow it still comes out every single October. Every patch reminds me of afternoons spent at her kitchen table, watching her sew while I sorted fabric scraps beside her. She always said quilts were meant to be used, not tucked away in a closet. So every fall, I wrap up in this quilt, think of her, and smile. Some gifts never lose their warmth. ❤️

Do you have a quilt that brings back special memories?

I don't see scraps... I see future quilts. Whenever I finish a project, I save the leftover pieces in little bundles like these. One day they'll become stars, flowers, borders, or an entire scrappy quilt filled with memories from quilts I've made before.
My fabric stash may be growing... but so are the possibilities.💕

I'm still very much a beginner, and every new block teaches me something. Some stitches aren't perfectly straight, and I've had to unpick more seams than I'd like to admit.

For years, I've tucked away little hand-embroidered pieces, never quite knowing what I would do with them.
Each one reminds me of a quiet afternoon, a season of life, or simply the joy of making something with my own hands. Instead of leaving them in a drawer, I've finally started stitching them together into one quilt. It may not be perfect, but every hexagon holds a memory... and I think that's what makes it beautiful. 💗

Do you save your old embroidery pieces, or turn them into something new?

When I found out I was going to be a grandmother, I started collecting fabrics before I even knew if it would be a boy or a girl. 💜
Every color in this quilt was chosen with love. Every stitch was sewn while imagining the little one who would someday cuddle up on it.
Today, seeing my grandbaby resting on the quilt I made with my own hands fills my heart in a way I can't put into words. One day, this quilt may just be a blanket.
But I hope they'll always know it was also a hug from Grandma. 💕
