Replica 1937 Sylvan Goldman "First Ever" Shopping Cart - Upcycled.
This is a functional, modern replica of the very first shopping cart ever invented! In 1937, grocery store owner Sylvan Goldman realized people stopped buying food when their hand baskets got too heavy. His solution? He took a standard folding chair frame, removed the seat, attached rolling wheels to the legs, and mounted a basket. This custom piece faithfully recreates that historic invention using a rugged, modern metal folding chair frame and an ultra-tough, solid plastic crate. It still folds up for easy storage, rolls on swivel wheels, and is perfect as a rolling laundry bin, flea market companion, or retail display piece. Own a piece of upcycled history!
Check it out at the Tomah Farmers Market on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
We regret we won't be there July 11. Due to attending a graduation party out of town.
Thank you for your patronage.
