This is an important message from our team at Michigan Storm Chasers. Just the facts. Our air quality begins to dip across the majority of the state as we head into the mid-afternoon hours today, July 15th, 2026. By sunset tonight, nearly the entire state will see 150+ μg/m³ AQI concentration, which translates to very unhealthy on the air quality index. Overnight, those winds out of the northwest do not stop, bumping parts of our area into the hazardous to everyone category at 250.5-500 μg/m³ AQI concentration if recent short-term model trends are correct.

Dangerous air quality levels like these are rare, so please take your respiratory health very seriously. Smoke concerns mixed with the already excessive heat concerns both today and tomorrow will also be a factor for higher mortality rates amongst all age/health groups, per research collected by the National Library of Medicine (NLM). All data shown is for fine particulate matter (PM2.5).

Follow along for updates. Outdoor activities beyond this evening should monitor the AQI very closely.

Please do not drop off your taxes at our old office. We have a drop off box at our new office, right of the door. Our new office is located between the fire department and the concession stand.

We will have 1 more day open for tire disposal on Monday, July 13th from 2-6 or until full. If you live in AFTON or Onaway you can also bring your tires. Location : Forest Township Transfer Station: Davies Ave - Tower . Please share.

The trailer for the tire diaposal is now open and ready for your tires! Remember no rims allowed !!

Scrap tire disposal will be on July 10th and 11th at the Tower Dump. Friday - 2: 00- 6:00 pm and Sat. 8:00- 3 PM or until full.
If you are disposing of tires, you must help throw them into the trailer.
No tractor, loader, earth movers, airplane or.golf cart or other heavy equipment tires allowed. No rims or other non conforming garbage or materials
Allowed.
You must live in Forest Township to dispose of tires.
Uodate: notice time change for Friday.

For anyone voting absentee and wish to drop their ballot off at the Township Office, we have an official drop box in the front of the office building. It is to the left of the door and clearly marked as a ballot drop box. The new office is directly behind the fire hall on North Black River Ave.
