Ever wonder where eelo came from? It’s a little origin story with a lot of heart.
Before we were Fresh Water Textiles, we were eelo, our original name and close to our heart. We changed it for a while, did some growing, and in 2023 we went back to our roots.
Eelo started with the things we love most: family, the outdoors and fabric. Think bold color, serious durability, and a commitment to making things responsibly, without sacrificing style or soul.
The name itself? It’s layered. It nods to the Hawaiian monk seal—‘ilio holo i ka uaua (“the dog that runs in rough water”), carries our kids’ initials, and our old lab, Eelo (note the photo from 2010 when Eelo arrived!). Honoring his spirit of wild resilience, companionship and adventurous spirit.
Everything we make is yarn-dyed, thoughtfully woven, and designed to be lived with, spilled on, packed up, passed around, and loved hard. Our shop is a mix of raw goods and finished pieces, because we like giving people options and excuses to get creative.
