48 hours of planning, 150 4.5x4.5 inch squares, 6 yards of edge tape, One roll of cotton batting, Two yards of fleece backing, Four hours of embroidery, 7 days of sewing, and so much love.

This quilt has a huge piece of my heart, and I am so beyond lucky to have had the trust to bring it to life.

There were moments I questioned my sanity, and moments where I was convinced this project MIGHT kill me, but I’m still mostly sane and I am very much alive.

Looking back on the last 8 days all I can think about is how much of a learning experience every single project is, and how amazing it is to create for others.

My heart is so so full. 🩷

Let’s talk about throw away culture 💬

This specific scenario was a sad case of a dryer getting the upper hand.
The owner could have easily tossed this hoodie in the trash, and purchased a new one.
After all that’s what the majority would do. But I’m glad they didn’t because now I get to have this chat!

What most people don’t tell you is that this is a $15 fix, that only takes about an hour to complete.

So what did I do and why does it look different?

Instead of simply repairing the damage and shortening the cuff, I took them BOTH off and threw them politely away. Then I added a cotton stretch cuff. Now, if the dryer decides to take another jab, the cuff has some stretch which reduces the risk of the fabric tearing, and because cotton can sustain higher heat than synthetic fiber it won’t melt.

Please consider giving your damaged clothing new life. It’s worth the energy to revitalize instead of throw away.
