Over 2200 years ago, the 1st Emperor of China selected 11 families to be his imperial embroiders. He placed these families in a village, on the southeast coast of China, called Suzhou. Until the end of imperial China in the 20th century, the descendants of these families created hand-stitched silk embroidery for the aristocracy of China. This extraordinary form of artwork still uses the same resou
rces and techniques the family has developed over the centuries. Our processes have changed very little, we make our own silk, dye, spin and weave it by hand. Our artists use nothing but silk thread and needles to create Susho, every stitch is by hand. King Silk Art is a family business. The Zhang family, descendents of one of the first families, still creates Susho in Suzhou. In 2004, Forest Qing Zhang introduced Susho to North America and received an amazing welcome. Today, the Zhang family is paving a new silk road with our Susho collecting new collectors from all over the world.
