On the eve of World Mental Health Day, I’d like to share a few thoughts & maybe encourage you!
This isn’t a post about special sales, why shopping local is critical to communities, or how much I enjoy your company. No, this is to tell you how much YOU matter! To say that YOU can do hard things! YOU can overcome whatever hardships & challenges you are currently facing.
See, I love my life- I do! It’s SO far from perfect. I have worries, insecurities, and problems like most people. But through my imperfections God has shown me truth about life. Learning to talk to the Lord and speak to Him about anything & everything, and to seek guidance from others that have more experience than I do and have the same passion to shine Jesus into a dark world: life changing!
Salt & Light was never my dream, but is my attempt to be obedient to the calling God placed on me. Through my daily time with God, I understood the assignment & have done my best to bring it to our community! Creating a warm, welcoming safe space for people to gather. To shop, to sing, to pray, to lift up & encourage. To show fruits of the spirit, exchange wisdom, laugh & tell stories.
What tends to happen is beautiful people stop in having no idea what to expect, and usually end up realizing S&L is just a little bit different from most shops! It’s never about spending lots of money, but about experiencing something that might stick with you. Something that makes you wonder. Some people won’t like or understand this- some may say it hurts the business, but all I can do is trust and obey. Everything that S&L does and believes is Jesus!
My daily prayer since day 1 four years ago and continuing still is for God to send through the doors whoever should enter, and for me or the visitor to be prepared for whatever blessing is intended. Sometimes an unexpected topic comes up. Sometimes, prayer takes place, questions get asked, seeds are planted or watered.
My business offers much more than merchandise for sale. It offers community & kindness. It offers compassion and excitement for whatever you share with us. I sometimes wonder why some days (or months) are so quiet, and I let worry seep in. I need prayers about this. I know the purity of the mission I have to shine light and represent my Savior, but as a very imperfect human, sometimes I fall short.
While S&L has experienced quite a few hills & valleys, and recently we’ve had the fewest visits ever in time, we know we’ve not been forgotten or forsaken. If there ever was a time to shop Local, it’s now. The bonding and friendships through S&L have improved my mental health more than I knew possible!
If you haven’t been in, this is your invitation. If it’s been a long while, stop by. If you’ve been and loved your time with us, please leave a review, tell your friends, and come back soon. While I can give away every penny of profit to local non-profits, I need YOU to stay open. Other small businesses do, too!
Maybe you’ll just come in to take a peek, restock your Boujee, or grab a quick gift. Hopefully while you are in S&L you’ll also get a taste of Jesus, and something will stick with you that you can’t shake. If that happens, come back, see what happens next time! Before long, you’ll be a special part of the S&L family, and that’s just what we want!!
