Our practice specifically offers HOYA brand lenses to our patients through our mai

n lab, while specialty lenses through QC optical lab, both in Portland. If you're interested in anti-reflective coatings, we fit most of our patients with EX3, HOYA's top of the line coating. This provides an anti-reflective surface, scratch resistance, water stain resistance, and smudge/oil resistance. If you're a progressive wearer or a new progressive wearer, you are aware of the distortion you often experience in your side vision with standard progressives. With the HOYA lenses we prescribe, this will reduce that distortion and help give you clearer vision all around. This will make the spectacles that much more comfortable. Photochromic lenses, better known as Transition lenses, are always being upgraded. You may remember when they first came out, but they are not like they used to be! Depending on the type of transition lens, when they change, they can be polarized, change behind your windshield, or change quicker back and forth than they used to! These provide you with a variety of options when thinking about Transitions lenses! Are you worried that your lenses or your child's lenses breaking or cracking? Consider Trivex due to its optical superiority to polycarbonate, but just as strong and impact resistant. This material provides extra scratch resistance without the glare issues that polycarbonate presents. Welcome home, Artemis II crew! 🚀🌑🌎

What an incredible journey to watch as NASA astronauts traveled to the moon and back- bringing a whole new meaning to “out of this world” vision 👀✨

Of course, in eye care, we can’t help but notice the eyewear along the way…

There’s more to an eye exam than just vision 👁️

Diabetic retinopathy happens when consistently high blood sugar levels begin to damage the blood vessels in the retina, leading to bleeding. The longer someone has diabetes - and the higher their A1C (which reflects blood sugar control over time) - the greater the risk for these changes.

It remains one of the leading causes of blindness in the U.S. When diabetes isn’t well controlled, fluid can build up in the retina, causing swelling and potentially leading to vision loss.

In the first retina image, the red spots represent areas of bleeding, while the white spots show reduced blood flow (ischemia). The second retina image shows a healthy retina for comparison.

This week, say hi to Teja! 👋

Teja is our amazing part-time team member who helps out wherever she’s needed- whether that’s as an ophthalmic technician or welcoming you at the front desk when you check in for your appointment. She’s currently a college student, and we’re so lucky to have her on our team when she’s here!

Outside of work, Teja loves baking (and yes… we very much benefit from that 🍪😌), riding her motorcycle 🏍️, and spending time with her brother—who you might recognize from a few of these photos!
