“A few days ago while I was at the pool I saw a young mom and her little daughter walk into the pool area dressed in very pretty coordinated swimsuits.

The mom, with her perfect loose curls tied in a coordinated tape, spent the first few minutes talking aloud on her phone to a friend while her daughter stood waiting to get into the pool.

Mom ended the phone call and proceeded to scatter pool toys and sunscreen on a matching towel.

Then, after finding the right angle and the right light, mom took out her tripod and took a few selfies with her daughter.

Little girl asked to get in the pool
Mom said to wait and then posed her daughter in front of the pool, then entering the pool and then back out of the pool.

Little girl smiled big and said cheese like she had done it a million times. So Mama told her she could play now.

The little one swam for a couple of minutes.

Mom called a friend from her phone and started another conversation while her little girl asked politely and repeatedly:

“Mom, can you come to the water with me please?”

She was ignored.

"Mommy, will you come to play with me?" She asked 4 more times.

Mom looked at her, but never hung up the phone. After 10 minutes mom finished her call, picked up the sunscreen that never applied, the water toys that never touched the water, and then her daughter and left the pool.

I sat there thinking about what I had witnessed for a while later. I imagined the photos she took being perfectly edited and posted on social media with a caption like "Pool time with my girl!

Somewhere another mom will be at home with her kids, the house a mess because of her game, her hair rebellious for Mother's Day and her dirty laundry with saliva or peanut butter.

She's going to be tired because she spent the day cooking, caring, cleaning and playing with her kids.

She's going to look at that picture and compare herself to the perfect mom in the pool.

Guilt will whisper in your ear:
"You're not good enough... "
"You don't look like that mom in the pool... "
“You don’t have money to buy expensive swimsuits like that and you don’t have time to make memories like her”... and that young mom is going to believe it. She's going to feel like a failure. She'll never know that how she spent her time that day, was far better in the eyes of her children than that "perfect mom" in the pool.

What we see on social media is not always real.

Sometimes and often it's a complete set up.

It's staged and filtered, it's fake.

Sometimes we see absolutely wonderful vacation photos and beautiful homes and freshly-styled hair, but it's just ONE moment.

It's the best moment of a whole day spent like ours.

Working, cleaning and putting up the mess...

Mama don't compare yourself.
You are enough!
You're amazing and the best part is, you're REAL!
Your dirty beach, your messy house and your happy children are real and are proof that you are doing it right!”

I met at a mama makers event many years ago I setup a booth for F&TTG and she set a booth for her line retro tot. I remember looking at this mama in all her beauty thinking WOW THIS WOMAN HAS IT TOGETHER! Her labels were nice and the clothing was uuuuhmazing. When I started my line I didn’t even know how to sew. I had sewn fox a couple pairs of pants and people loved them. My friend was having an earth day event and she said “come sell your stuff. “So I got behind the machine and started sewing. Another dear friend Jen whipped me up a hand burned sign and I was in business. So when .yhanni hosted her event I jumped right on it. I was inspired to make clothes for my child that I didn’t see anywhere else. When I saw jaki and her clothes I was blown away. I began to internally compare ( side note this happens with social media all the time horrible for us women and humans) well I did wonderfully that day. It felt wonderful and validating. The things you can get done when you have 1 small child and a bunch of inspiration that they gift you when they are born is truly magical. Years later jupiter found a bag of vintage clothes I had been gifted. I kept them because I loved them but fox at an early age had his own style and refused to wear bell bottoms. I was sad but had to respect it. When Jupiter found the bag of bell bottoms he went nuts. He was so happy and said “this is my style mama” and so the journey began of finding Jupiter things that he loved. I reached out to jaki who had gone back to work in film (super gifted)and asked if she happen to have any of her retro tot left and to my surprise she had a stash!! We talked about our first meeting and we discovered that she felt the same about me as I felt about her. What that means is that we both felt inadequate around each other and it was all made up. For those that first found my Instagram because of my kid clothing line or my dresses and are still here, thank you for staying. I know it’s been a long time since I’ve released any clothing. I also know that I haven’t shared on here very much. I just wanted to share that I have a very small collection of dresses coming out soon. Im dying them now. I also have a few more that need sewing but I won’t wait until that is done to release the small number of dresses that should be ready really soon. I will also be sharing a line of vintage inspired kids clothing as well, also a small collection and these clothes come with a story I will share soon. In regards to sharing on here, something happened after thunders birth and all of a sudden nothing felt like it mattered enough to share and all felt somehow self serving. That feeling hasn’t faded. I once truly enjoyed sharing on this platform. I felt the connection in the world of disconnect that has somehow never returned after my visit to the world of the dead. And now with war and suffering happening in the world this post too feels silly, thoughtless and self serving. I have carried sadness in my heart with the stuff happening on this earth and still try and find peace with the googles of my children and creating with my hands. So here I am sharing and with this share I hope we all have little things that bring us peace and happiness, moments of joy and beauty and a way to do what we can to help where we can, knowing that many do not get this relief today.

Oh oh that balance thing, I’ve lost it again!!!how does one have time for all the things? Normally I feel like it’s the children and nothing else. This last couple weeks has felt like yes the children but one specific child has taken my time away from everything. It’s been so much fun being a skate mom but Wowzers that’s a full time gig!! I have medicine to make and other children to love on, a bathroom that needs remodeling ( if ya know someone ) a line of dresses to put out and I know I know for those that have patiently waiting my probably last release of childrens clothes. Somethings got to give and I think it will have to be the kids line even though it brings me joy. S**t it all brings me sooooo much joy!!!! Hope you are all feeling strong and balanced going into this holiday season. I know I’m ready for the slow down and a massage with my man and maybe dinner together too since I’m putting it all out here! Making time for everyone including myself is something I need to learn to work on! Bless you mother’s of the many many children. You women are pure magic!!!
