📀 CDs ARE MAKING A COMEBACK — AND ONE ROANOKE AREA RESELLER IS BUYING OLD COLLECTIONS

ROANOKE VA — The compact disc may be having a moment again.

According to new data from the Recording Industry Association of America, physical music sales helped push U.S. recorded music revenue higher during the first half of 2026, with CD revenue reportedly jumping 58.6% compared with the same period last year.

That renewed interest in physical media is something The Vintage Reseller in Vinton VA has been watching closely.

The local reseller buys old CD collections, with some of the most sought-after titles coming from the 1990s and 2000s, especially:

• Heavy Metal
• Rock & Roll
• Punk
• Alternative / Grunge
• Hip-Hop & Rap
• Hard-to-find, obscure and out-of-print releases

And it isn’t just CDs.

The Vintage Reseller buys and sells a wide range of physical media, including VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, video games and other vintage entertainment collectibles.

Even DVDs and VHS have been seeing renewed interest from collectors, movie fans and people who simply want to own their favorite titles instead of relying entirely on streaming services.

💿 DON’T THROW OUT OR DONATE THOSE OLD CDs — some of those 90s and early-2000s titles may be more desirable today than you think.

Have you seen this?

This photo has been making the rounds in reseller and trading card groups, showing what appears to be a Target store sign stating that the company “no longer sells to resellers” and that purchases should be for personal use only.

Whether it’s an official corporate policy or just a store-level attempt to stop shelf clearing is still up for debate, but it’s definitely getting people talking.

As a reseller, I understand both sides. Nobody likes seeing shelves wiped clean, but reselling has also been part of retail culture for decades. Many people rely on buying and reselling items as a side hustle or even a full-time income.

💬 What’s your take on this? Should stores limit purchases by resellers, or should customers be free to buy as much as they want if the products are available?
