I was clueless 2 weeks ago, after Virginia Beach Painted Tree forced us to close our shop, with what to do next. Trying to collect my self while sitting in the garden when I heard a whisper say “all you need is in your back yard”…which launched me into creating a boutique in my garden shed. A community of mermaids let Aesthetics know she had found her new home in this whimsical version of a store… almost like fairy tale🩵The unexpected dream continues to bloom among the roses… tended by the mermaids 🧜‍♀️

It may have been rainy outside on Sunday morning but this mermaid had sunshine in her heart 💛🧜‍♀️

Many mermaids came out with their starfishes adorning their ears who had read my post yesterday to bring their healing and rebuilt the broken dreamer inside of me. We laughed, told mermaid stories of living on the island and began to dream together 🧜‍♀️ The garden rejoiced having the visits from my “sisters of sandbridge”!

My little garden shed had such brick and mortar Aesthetic vibes! Someone even changed in the middle of the shed like at the Crystal Lake location before we had a try on room. A boutique had bloomed like a rose in my garden!
I definitely felt all the good vibes from the Midwest blowing over and sending such inspirational women my way! Thank you mermaids near and far🧜‍♀️💛

I look forward to what was manifested in the garden Saturday… that whisper on Thursday, “all you need is in your backyard”🦋
I look forward to putting out a sign by my mailbox that says “the mermaid is in”and the ladies will all know what that means… a haven for dreams, stories, connection and of course cuteness 🧜‍♀️🦋🌹

Surrounded all week by the contents of my store having taken over my home in Virginia along with my entire driveway and a trailer stocked like a jenga tower, not knowing where to go next and just exhausted. I was flat out traumatized not only by my loss, but the loss for my retail sisters and other vendors. The amount some of them have in retail by having multiple booths and stores is enough to fill every bedroom in their home, shed and garage with no where to sell it. It’s like cutting a tree 🌳 you do not realize how much space it required until you see it on the ground dissected
In parts and it is massive…

Thursday as I was sitting in backyard trying to at least smell the roses… an ambitious plan whispered in my ear… “You have everything you need right here”…
Then the ambitious thought to clean out a pack to the gills garden shed came about… Cleaning it out and getting it dusted and de-cobwebbed, vacuuming and a good old fashion scrubbing of the floor on my hands and knees. This was really happening… I could see potential that had been there the whole time. It wasn’t going to cost me any booth fee, vendor fee or rent! I began to pull out product and fixtures and map things. I was blaring my music and the lyrics song after song seem to be a motivating cheerleader in my ears. My husband wasn’t home the first day and I even surprised myself at the things I was able to creatively move… I told Mark he better not get out of line because I think I could move a body after my clever new ways of moving things lol 😂 Of course when he got home he could see the potential and began to help me map out the hanging of fixtures. We were creating again together which I truly love🥰

The neighborhood in Virginia Beach called Sandbridge is having a garage sale! I’m the Seabeauty house and would love to feel like a shop owner again… The energy of connecting with women and inspiring each other through dreaming and finding the beauty around us and the beauty in each other… The mission of a name I chose almost 18 years ago. Such wonderful friends and family have continued to encourage me during one of the hardest weeks of my business… It wasn’t just 3 painted walls an an outlet… that we lost that day… we lost our ability to dream and entrepreneurship is fueled by the dreams that people think but someone actually takes the leap and does. These last two days have ignited the dreamer in me again… yes it’s a garage sale but it could be so much more.

To my Midwest mermaids please send me your good vibes and to my Virginia Beach mermaids please stop by if just to smell the roses… be what inspires me today 🩵🦋🧜‍♀️

I’ve sat down to write this many times…what happened last week to Painted Tree, not only affected my business but caused an unexplainable wound to the entrepreneur spirit of over 12,000 small businesses that gave life to the Painted Tree…

What none of us have lost, is the support of our communities, loyal customers, family and friends. I graciously appreciate every ounce of support… even the silent moments of thoughts, prayers and good vibes… Everyone single one of them was felt and added healing to my entrepreneurial spirit❤️ Thank you for believing in me and reminding me of my strongest qualities ❤️

As a small business we are not just mourning 3 painted walls with an outlet… A vendor booth in a vendor mall store…We are mourning an incubator of creativity and a family of collaborative entrepreneurs… The spirit of how can we make your dream happen… The origins of this store allowed us to dream as big as the founders. When you decide to open a business or take risks in business you need that strong tribe of not only encouragers but also people who inspire you… Whether you knew every vendor or not their inspiration was always there to fuel yours and yours fueled theirs… No other platform of vendor mall stores offered you the opportunity to become a chain… You had access to so much at such a little cost to pull off businesses that anywhere else would be pipe dreams. For example if you had a passion of Western wear clothing and you did not live in an area that demanded that… you could open up a store in another state and be true to the things you really wanted to create and sell.

6 years ago after COVID hit my brick and mortar struggled to pay an inflated rent from a healthy economy that was never reduced to reflect the covid economy… I struggled to stay fresh in a large store against the Amazon giant. Staying fresh with new inventory was hard when buying was reduced drastically. People did not stop coming they just reduced their purchasing by half. Painted Tree came along and allowed me to save my business by having many opportunities to sell my wares and bring in fresh inventory. I was able to finish a 5 years ago lease without having to lose my name because of Painted Tree. Painted Tree recharged my entrepreneurship and gave me new opportunities during a time of retail struggle. It welcomed me into my empty nester stage and allowed me to be more flexible to my family. As I grew into my middle age stage my kids grew up and ended up on 2 different coasts. I made a decision to commit to one Painted Tree Location by closing my Rustic Fox locations in Illinois this fall. I wanted to be where I felt the most creative and supported in my business. Painted Tree Virginia Beach provided that opportunity. I could keep up with having this location and balance family spread across the states. My booth was always tended to and I could count on people and friends to stock it for me and rest assured it always was true to my aesthetic.

This spring I was excited about having one location and discovering creative ways to continue to spread cuteness to customers who have found me all over the states. Painted Tree made my business become a countrywide boutique not just a local one.

It has definitely caused a pause for the moment as I figure out how to go forward. The cuteness will continue!!!
I am already figuring out new avenues. There might even be some grass roots pop-ups and local markets in the future so stay tuned❤️

Thank you again for allowing my dream to find each One of you🧜‍♀️❤️
