Less than three months after we lost Evan, life changed again when Makayla was in an accident. Makayla may not be family by blood, but there has never been a distinction in our hearts. She is our sister, our niece, our friend—she is family in every way that matters.

Participating in Life Rolls On is deeply personal for all of us. We carry Evan with us in everything we do, and we stand beside Makayla as she continues to face a life she never expected with courage, determination, and strength.

After everything our family has been through, being surrounded by a community that celebrates possibility, inclusion, and the freedom of the ocean means more than we can put into words.

Life can change in an instant. We learned that twice in less than three months. But love doesn’t disappear when life changes. It shows up. It holds on. It adapts. And sometimes, it gets you back in the water. 🌊

He was always the life of the party. The loudest singer, the biggest laugh, the one who made every moment more fun just by being there.

This was Evan on his last Fourth of July—singing without a care in the world, living every second to the fullest. None of us knew it would be his last Independence Day, but this is exactly how we want to remember him: full of life, full of joy, and reminding everyone around him to soak up every moment.

August 4, 2023, 16 days before he passed away, Evan attended what would become his final concert ever.

It was a night with Sublime and Slightly Stoopid—good music, good vibes, and memories that will stay with us forever. At the time, none of us knew it would be his last show, but we’re grateful he got to experience a night that perfectly captured the spirit he loved: sunshine (and some thunderstorms), friends, music, and living life to the fullest.

This year, Sublime and Slightly Stoopid are coming back to Virginia Beach for the Point Break Festival, and it feels like the perfect time to celebrate those memories and keep Evan’s spirit alive.
