My hubby and our rescue pittie, Cosmo, hit a very large buck with John's very new car on the way home from our campsite at Clay's Park at dusk last night. I was following behind in my car and saw the deer come flying out of the brush and in right front of his car...which still has that new car smell, it is so new.

The poor big fella scooted off to where he came from and the lovely North Lawrence police officer who responded couldn't find him, even though she got out of her car with a flashlight to look in the brush....so, hopefully he is ok. You all know how much we love and value all of nature's creatures, so this is devastating to us. :( The officer says she has seen adult deer take hits on the highway like that and keep going, though, so we are hopeful that he's mostly fine. 🦌

John's new car, however, is nottttt so great. But everyone inside was ok, and that's what matters!

Let this be your reminder that it is rutting season for hoofed critters, and them boys out there actin' crazy!!!

Be safe and aware of your surroundings - this could have been soooo much worse if we weren't so hyper-vigilant in watching for wildlife while driving!
