Doctor Sleep (Director's Cut) (2019)

I'm not even the worlds biggest fan of The Shining, but this movie was SOOOO good. I am going to have to look up the book on Audible. I sort of figured that Ewan MacGregor was just doing it for something easy to do, but no.
little Danny Torrance (the trike-riding kid from The Shining) is grown up now. He's used alcohol, to deal with his "shine". But now? He's starting over and going sober. He's learned to box up the old monsters.
Until he's psychically contacted by a girl whose shine allows her to realize that there is a group of demons who essentially live forever by ingesting the shine from any magical kids they can find. It's a race to find the demons before the demons find them.

We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011)

Holy crap. I hated this movie to my very core. It was fantastic. It made me feel every cringe and gut-punch. It made me feel gaslit by a husband I don't have, over a child I have never had.
The realism was utterly disturbing on a nerve-grating level. It starts you off with a gap between "what was" and "what is", and slowly fills in the "what happened".
I've never identified more with a character who I have nothing to identify with. It took things out of me that I didn't know were there, and left me feeling sick to my stomach and also uplifted, at least for a few minutes here and there.

Been watchin' the spooky movies. Mostly I've just been letting whatever platform I'm on auto-play the next thing. But I'll try to give some synopses of the ones I remember. Starting with

Good Boy (2022. Norwegian)

Tinder date goes quite well. Boy is hot. And apparently rich. Lives alone except for a dog that's "hard to explain."
2nd date also goes well. Until dog shows up for dinner... and is a man in a dog costume. Girl finds this pretty weird. But after some research into puppy play, realizes that maybe being a millionaire just means you're into different stuff. Let's give him another shot.
Eventually gets used to Frank-the-dog being around. (apparently this movie is also called You, Me, and Frank)
How about a weekend at my cabin in the woods? With Frank? Sure! Why not? And this is where Millionaire starts to show his real personality and the truth comes out and things get REAL wild for a minute. I'm sure you can guess. It was fairly predictable, but also just so disturbing that the break from pretending this is all normal felt like a relief.
And then there's the last 10 seconds. woof.
