As we move through the last full week of August, water temps have slipped into the upper 60's and the fish are hungry! We're getting great Walleye reports from the Whiskey Flats and 12 Mile areas out of Warroad! A jig with a minnow or crawler is a great way to go. Orange has been a very good color the last few days.

At the Northwest Angle walleye are really showing up in fall spots and feeding more aggressively. Look for fish on points in 15 to 20 feet of water or in mud flats slightly shallower than you may have been fishing a few weeks ago. Muskie action has also started to heat up. This is good news for all the anglers who will take part in the Max Derby up there next week!

Fishing out of Warroad continues to be lights out. We're finding fish just outside the Warroad river and all along the south shore. Some days as shallow as 8 to 10'!

Good numbers of fish are still out deep in places like Whiskey Flats, although they seem a bit scattered the last few days. You'll want to use your electronics to your advantage as you cover water looking for fish. A classic jig and minnow is becoming increasingly effective for many anglers.

Reports from the east side indicate that fish are beginning to move in closer to the Rainy River. There are good numbers of slot sized fish just out from the gap.

Reef fishing at the Northwest Angle continues to be good on both the American and Canadian sides. Muskie fishing has been hit-or-miss, with many fish slightly deeper than anglers are used to looking. Like the walleye fishing, using your electronics to find the fish can pay dividends!

Walleye fishing remains very consistent on the south end of the lake. Out of Warroad you can expect to find fish spread out in 12-20'. Pulling a crawler harness at 1.1 to 1.4MPH and covering water is your best bet. There are good numbers of 16" to 18" fish in this area. Further out, there are good pods of fish on the mud flats, which can be fished a variety of ways! If you're targeting big Walleye, they are out in the mud as well.

On the Ontario side, Walleye fishing remains strong and some fish are starting to show up in fall spots. Expect this trend to continue as the water temps drop. Muskie fishing has picked up considerably with many big fish starting to eat! It's going to be a great late summer and fall for anyone venturing up North

Walleye action remains awesome just out of Warroad! People are catching fish in all the usual late summer spots, plus some great, close to home spots like swift ditch, Labertsons, and the sandbar! We're looking forward to a great fall in Muskeg Bay.

At The Angle walleye fishing has been good. Every now and then you can catch active fish on the top of reefs around the angle but the most consistent bite has been in deeper water or areas where fish can relate to current. Muskie fishing has been tough as of late. BUT, a little change can often trigger a big change in fish activity so stick with it!
