Diplomacy and Fashion are back in Washington with the Trump administration, but this time, it's not First Lady Melania making headlines—it's Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Long story short:
A right-wing journalist from Real America's Voice—who also happens to be Marjorie Taylor Greene’s boyfriend—provocatively asked President Zelensky: "Why don’t you wear a suit? Do you even own one?"
Zelensky’s response was brilliant: "I’ll wear a suit when this war is over. Maybe something like yours. Maybe better, maybe cheaper."
There was even some laughter, creating a briefly friendly atmosphere. However, Zelensky later revisited the topic of his attire, this time emphasizing twice that it was not a serious issue, making it clear that he preferred to focus on "more serious things."
Now, here’s my personal reminder: fashion choices in diplomacy do matter. Even Zelensky has strategically considered his wardrobe. When the war began, he deliberately changed his dress code, opting for tailored outfits by Ukrainian designers to showcase patriotism and promote them on the global stage. He had a confident response to the journalist’s question and carefully selected what to wear when meeting President Trump.
Speaking of Trump—when he compliments your look, he genuinely means it. I have no doubt he liked Zelensky’s black top. Trump once complimented my bubblegum candy dress, and I knew I could easily provoke him by wearing pants or an orange dress. He also complimented my former prime minister’s spouse, Monika Babišová, at the White House, and I’m sure he appreciated when Kim Kardashian wore a black suit in 2018.
Above all, when meeting a president—whether Trump or any high-ranking official—always carefully consider what to wear. Do your research. Use Pinterest mood boards, browse Google Images for inspiration from diplomats you admire, or message me directly. I promise to respond.
It’s good to be back on social media after a long but much-needed break-- I MISS YOU-ALL!
