A great storage tip to limit bobbin thread tangles and chaos! I do this too.

This closely mirrors what I've seen in the past two years. There's a nationwide shortage of skilled, experienced seamstresses and tailors, and not much of a pipeline to train new ones. If you're interested in the trade, it's well worth a read! This is a very "pressing" interest of mine (pun intended)

Nordstrom, Men’s Warehouse and other brands are reviving an old-fashioned job.

ALL POSITIONS ARE FILLED! :) Thank you so much to all who reached out.

We're hiring workshop assistants!
This is a part-time non-sewing position. Assistants work side by side with the seamstress, keep the workshop neat and functioning smoothly, and help to prepare garments for sewing.

The workshop assistant carries out many of the steps that occur AFTER we pin the garment to fit to the customer... and BEFORE the seamstress begins the final stitches.

For example: The seamstress meets with a customer and pins up a pair of pants to the right length. The workshop assistant carefully measures, marks, pins, trims. and irons the pants so they are the right length ready for the seamstress to sew a new hem.

Our workshop assistants often start out unskilled but good with details and measurements-- and grow into highly skilled workers who know many of the steps needed to make beautiful garments before they are ever put under a sewing machine.

More details are in the first FOUR comments below.

What this means for you: plan farther ahead and book early, to be sure you can get an appointment.

Also: if you’re interested in learning the skills of a tailor or seamstress, reach out! Learn from the pros while we’re still around. 😉 Many of us are looking for extra hands.

The ranks of tailors, dressmakers and custom sewers are shrinking in the U.S. even as their skills and services are finding fresh demand

Before ordering formalwear or a suit online, measure yourself carefully with a tape measure. Your seamstress or tailor is probably happy to help! (I sure am!) if in doubt, it’s almost always better to order a garment larger than smaller. It’s nearly always less expensive to take IN a garment to make it smaller in one section, as long as the rest of the garment fits you well.

We are booking up fairly quickly! And... we are moving! We will be in the same building, still on the 2nd floor... but down the hall a bit in a larger space. That means, unfortunately, that our April appointments are super limited. Please book ahead for prom so we can help you! ♥️

If you struggle to hang up slacks, this is for you. Start at the ankles!
Like a sharp front crease? Line up all the seams at the ankles and gently thread legs through the hanger, ankle first.
Prefer no crease? Flatten the legs out with seams on the edges, then hang.
Problems with pants looking “hippy” at the hips? Use the “front crease” method to avoid extra projection to the sides.
(Please excuse my squint as glasses slide down my nose! Yikes, that was unexpected to see 😆)
