LOVE my little Poppet. This was her forth rodeo. Working out the “flanks” and a “lie down” and starting to “wear.” 153 sheep and lambs in this mob, not an easy task, but she’s got great action and a super smart head on her shoulders. I am surprised she is so calm! She is usually a Spitfire and zooming around at playtime. A little over a year old. Waited a long time to “start” her till she had the ability to lie down and really listen. Not a fan of raising my voice. So much fun I think it will become and every day thing! Will be fun to see how she evolves.

FINISHED SHEARING YESTERDAY! Thank you Geffken. Van loaded for market this morning, but I can’t walk! Headed to the emergency room to find out what’s up with my damn knee.🥴

Bedding pack. Scooped a bit from the lamb pen to the compost pile, this is what happens. It’s why I am in favor of a bedding pack in winter, that is always giving off a little heat. Will clean the concrete floor before lambs start to drop, and the ladies will go here for shearing, when they are naked, and late gestation. Then the pack will be scraped for lambing on clean bedding. TO GROW NEXT YEAR’S BLANKETS.

What goes into making really good Wool? Other than excellent breeding and all the other things… Feeding really good soil! After the Barns are cleaned out in the spring time, the Pile heats up and settles. Then it is turned and aerated till all the carbon is captured and the nitrogen is stable. In another month, this pile will be spread on areas that appear to need more soil fertility, and washed in over winter… To begin the next season of awesome Grass! And awesome WOOL.
