Mat-Su Regional Hospital hosted their second “Dog Days of Summer” this past weekend. MY House’s Recording Studio and Q99.7 Radio Station were there in playing music and interacting with participants, with food provided by a local cinnamon bun truck. “Dog Days of Summer” was a great way to get our local dog lovers interacting with humans and pups in the community. The event served as a fundraiser for the Mat-Su Borough Animal Shelter, and collected over 500 pounds of dog food.
With all the money and dog food collected throughout the day being donated to the animal shelter after the event, Deena Straub with Mat-Su Regional Hospital explained that, “this is one of the ways our hospital staff likes to give back.” Mandy Bush, another one of the organizers said that some of the staff were outside as vendors selling “crafts and yard sale items” in support.
Andrea from the Mat-Su Animal Shelter was there with two of their surrendered dogs, aiming for “showing people options, getting animals adopted, and promoting their name and mission.”
Alongside the Animal Shelter, Dream a Dream Sled Dog Kennel based out of Willow, Alaska was present. Sydnie Bahl who completed her qualifying races in the Iditarod in 2025 and then returned in 2026 to successfully complete the Last Great Race, was there working alongside her team to “show off our 11-week old husky sled dog puppies and two of our Iditarod finishers, and giving education about sled dogs and the race.”
