Knud Horup, painter, born on 22 May 1926. Educated at a technical school and private painting schools, including Börje Hovedskoog's Painting School in Gothenburg. Horup showed his undeniable abilities as a painter at an early stage and exhibited successfully at Young Art (Ung Kunst) in 1951; later he participated in the Artists' Autumn Exhibition (Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling) at Charlottenborg in 1952–53, the Free Exhibition (Den Frie Udstilling) in 1952, Aalborg Hallen in 1955, the Permanent Exhibition (Den Permanente Udstilling) in Copenhagen in 1956, as well as a number of solo exhibitions in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden.
Horup’s strong colors create a sense of space and texture, and his paintings are characterized by a confidence and completeness that almost seem suggestive. Horup’s works have always been received exceptionally well by both art critics and the public. Horup is regarded as one of the most promising younger Danish painters, and the expectations previously placed upon him are now being fulfilled to the fullest extent.
