Lamplighter’s hymn of the day is AMAZING GRACE!
“Amazing Grace” was written in 1772 by John Newton, a former slave ship captain who had a radical change of heart after a storm at sea nearly took his life. He gave up the slave trade, became a minister, and penned the words “Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.” He paired them with the tune we know today, “New Britain,” in early American hymnals. What started as one man’s testimony of being found, forgiven, and freed has become one of the most loved hymns in the world, sung in churches, prisons, funerals, and mountaintops for over 250 years.
Grace is the quiet miracle that meets us right where we are. It doesn’t ask if you’ve got it all together, if you’re too old to start again, or if you’ve made too many wrong turns to come back. Amazing Grace says you are seen, you are worth saving, and you are never too far for God to reach. When you are climbing back, wanting to feel good again, grace is the hand that steadies you. It’s the song for the weary, the second chance for the tired, and the reason we can keep going with hope instead of shame.
Father, thank You for the amazing grace that found me. Thank You for love I didn’t earn, forgiveness I couldn’t buy, and mercy that keeps holding me on the hard days. Thank You that grace doesn’t run out, doesn’t grow tired, and doesn’t leave me behind. Fill my heart with gratitude today, Lord, and let my life sing back to You. Because of Your grace, I am found, I am forgiven, and I am free. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
