Some evenings leave a mark on your heart forever. Last night was one of those evenings.
I had the incredible honor of speaking to a precious group of young ladies at their youth meeting. I shared a shortened version of my story—how my health journey began in 2014, the many surgeries that followed, losing both of my legs, and the countless moments I wondered what God was doing through it all.
Then I shared how God placed crochet in my life at exactly the right time. What began as a way to continue the tradition my grandmother and my mother started—making baby blankets for our family—became something so much bigger than I could have imagined. Crochet became therapy for my hands, peace for my mind, purpose for my heart, and eventually the beginning of Yarn Farm by Gigi. It has been a reminder, over and over again, that God can take what feels broken and create something beautiful.
When I posted a single crocheted animal, I had no idea what God was about to do. Orders started coming in, and since that day, He has faithfully provided. Every single month, without fail, He has sent another order. Some months have been busier than others, but His faithfulness has never stopped. Watching Him provide in ways I never expected has strengthened my faith more than I can explain.
After we talked, we picked up our crochet hooks and yarn, and I taught the girls a few basic stitches. They were completely engaged, asking questions, encouraging each other, and so excited to learn. Hearing them say they were taking their yarn and hooks to church camp next week so they could keep practicing absolutely melted my heart.
Then came my favorite part.
They opened the little crocheted cows I had made for them, each wearing tiny overalls. Watching those 12-, 13-, and 14-year-old girls light up with genuine excitement was something I’ll never forget. Their smiles, hugs, and thankful hearts reminded me that you’re never too old to experience joy over something made with love.
I walked away feeling like I had received the blessing instead of giving one.
Thank you, Mrs. Lacy Grable Hall and Mrs Price for trusting me to come share my testimony, my love for crochet, and, most importantly, what the Lord has done in my life. Thank you to every one of those sweet girls for welcoming me with open hearts. My prayer is that they always remember God has a purpose for every season of life, and that He can use the gifts He places in our hands to bless someone else.
**“We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Romans 8:28
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” —
