🪨 Did You Know?

North Carolina's official state rock is granite—and for good reason.

Near Mount Airy is what is widely known as the world's largest open-face granite quarry, stretching approximately one mile long and 1,800 feet wide.

The granite quarried there is prized for its strength, durability, and consistent color, making it a trusted choice for buildings, bridges, memorials, and monuments for well over a century. It was even used in the construction of the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

Have you ever visited the Mount Airy granite quarry or seen Mount Airy granite used in a monument or building?

🪦 Monday Memorial Fact

Did you know historians can often estimate when different sections of a cemetery were developed by looking at the style of the memorials?

From ornate Victorian monuments to simpler upright headstones and modern flat markers, memorial styles have changed over time as traditions, materials, and cemetery regulations evolved.

While memorial style alone can't determine its age, it provides valuable clues when combined with burial records and local history.

Every cemetery tells a story—not only through the names engraved on each memorial, but through the history reflected in the memorials themselves. 🤍

Have you ever noticed how different one section of a cemetery looks from another?

In honor of Barbara Ellen Dixon. Born on October 16, 1950, Barbara will be remembered as a loving grandmother whose kindness, faith, and love for her family will never be forgotten. Her life continues to be reflected in the cherished memories she leaves behind and the lives she touched.

Her custom memorial features a beautifully engraved cross with a flowing banner, delicate floral accents, and a matching granite vase adorned with a cross. Finished with the scripture reference 1 Corinthians 13:4-8, each detail creates a timeless tribute to her life and faith.

We are honored that the Dixon family entrusted us with creating this memorial in Barbara's memory. Thank you for allowing us to help preserve her legacy for generations to come. ❤️
