🪨 Did You Know?
North Carolina's official state rock is granite—and for good reason.
Near Mount Airy is what is widely known as the world's largest open-face granite quarry, stretching approximately one mile long and 1,800 feet wide.
The granite quarried there is prized for its strength, durability, and consistent color, making it a trusted choice for buildings, bridges, memorials, and monuments for well over a century. It was even used in the construction of the Wright Brothers National Memorial in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.
Have you ever visited the Mount Airy granite quarry or seen Mount Airy granite used in a monument or building?
