It is FREAKING HOT 🥵. I had big plans this week to jump right back into regular workouts after being out of my routine for the last couple of weeks. Road trip + 4th of July had me moving my body a lot through activities, but hardly any intentional workouts.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned about myself over the last year is that routine is key to my consistency and consistency is crucial to both motivation and progression.
I start my work days early, so I usually work out in the afternoon or evening. I set my goal for the week - 4 days of at least 20 mins of outside walking and 4 days of weights.
But when it’s 100 degrees F at the end of a long busy day of juggling work, home, kids home for summer break, schedules, chores, who the heck wants to work out?!?!! Not me.
So, today I made myself a promise to do weights at lunchtime. It was hot, I had a full morning of meetings, the kids were bouncing off the walls and it was lunch time. No motivation. But I promised myself. So much angsty struggle and internal arguments. I can battle!!! 🫣
I made progress this year in short time commitments. Peloton has mastered meeting people where they are with time commitment. When I am out of my groove and feeling overwhelmed, I just don’t want to do it. When I’m struggling with apathy and procrastination, I try to channel Melinda Mae. She’s Shell Silverstein’s he**in who ate a monstrous whale one bite at a time. I love her. She’s my mantra.
I don’t want to face a workout? I tell myself to start in right at the tail. One bite at a time. Today I stacked three classes. A 5 min arm and shoulders work out, a 10 min arm and shoulders class and a 5 min cool down (I love the breathing). 👏🏻
5 min warmup - she started in right at the tail…
Momentum started. Cheers to that. I’ll take it. 🙌🏻
