This lovely piece sold a couple weeks ago, but i still wanted to share it! It's not often you find clothing that's over100 years old in such good condition... and it's definitely not often you find the original advertisement!
I was sure that this wasn't military issue, due to the label, but my suspicion was confirmed when I saw this "Miss Saratoga" clothing ad from the early 20s, talking about the "middy" suits and blouses.
From the ad: "What Finer Gift. Girls at school and girls at home all need middies. And with numerous models to choose from, it is easy to find a Miss Saratoga Middy blouse or Middy suit as a gift for a girl of any age -- even for little folks only 6 years old. Miss Saratoga Middy blouses, Middy suits, Blooomers, and little girls' Middy dresses are individual and fabric and make. In poplin, (serge?) flannel, beach cloth, jean, real Irish linen, etc. Trim fitting hips; rolled collars; real naval sleeves. Ask your favorite store or write Dept. A for style plates."
