A copy of the newspaper arrived in the mail recently.

It brought me back to the early days of working with inherited textiles, when I wasn’t sure what I was making. I kept returning to the handwork in kimono, wondering about the lives behind the stitches, repairs, and signs of use. Those questions often brought me back to my grandmother.

Thank you to Akiko Minaga, Heather Horiuchi, and Nichi Bei News for the thoughtful feature.

N° 373 haori jackets

Revisiting a silhouette we first developed a year ago. Two versions this season, cut in a Japanese wool-linen blend and deadstock black linen.

Relaxed and generous through the body with a soft drape and robe-like construction. Designed to be worn open or loosely tied.

The black version uses a heavier linen, while the ibiguro grey is cut from a mid-weight Japanese wool-linen blend. Both transition easily into warmer months.

Because we work with deadstock textiles, only one was made in each size — black in L and ibiguro grey in M. Depending on desired fit, both can comfortably fit up to XL.

Finished with a cotton half lining, fully lined sleeves, hidden interior ties, exterior waist ties, and a single large patch pocket.

N° 92 flower arrangement top

Pressed flowers, falling flowers, and crushed blooms made from vintage and antique silk kimono scraps.

I thought this piece would end up centered around pressed flowers. Instead, it came down to a single red one.

The first time all three flower forms came together in one piece. Moving things around slowly until it felt balanced once worn. A bit like arranging a bouquet.
