Stamped embroidery is one of the first types of embroidery my Mother set me up with as a child, and is STILL one of the least expensive embroidery crafts available and REALLY good for beginner stitchers. Well, I should say that when I showed interest as maybe a six year old, she took an old flour sack towel and drew a barn and a fence on it--then showed me how to stem stitch. I was not too enamored with her rough hand drawn barn, nor the OLD and half worn out dish towel, but did try.
Later, at about age 11, I found Aunt Martha Colonial embroidery patterns, which at the time were maybe 0.88 cents, which was still something to think about back in the frugal early 70's. Somehow I got her to buy me those transfers and two plain white pillowcases. I successfully transferred the cutest little night gown girls with sleepy faces and candles in their hands. Just looking at them ready to embroider created an emotion in me. It took me a long time to embroider their red nightgowns and the little yellow candles but it started something that lives on still today.
Prairie Plum Stitchery carries a variety of Aunt Martha stamped patterns from Colonial Patterns. They are still easy, inexpensive, and fun!
