g all 6 of my kids and am beside myself excited to be back in the cloth diaper world talking and making diapers. 10 years ago I had my own wahm business making and selling Beccabottoms Diapers. At that time each week I'd stock About 30 diapers that sold out in 2 seconds and often the site would crash and things would oversell since there were several people buying at once. I had major postpartum depression and the business was just too much, so i ended up selling it.
7 years ago I made new patterns and sold diapers for a few months (Dunlap Designs). My youngest though was ill as an infant and required a lot of extra time, and couple that with severe depression and I just wasn't able to keep at it. It's been 3 1/2 years now and I've do a lot of healing and things have improved so much since then!! In 2013 I went on a journey to health and healing hrough clean healthy eating and then with the help of a MD who practices with supplements I have weaned off of heavy bipolar meds to lots of supplements. I can say I feel like a different person! I'm so so grateful!!!!! I began sewing again to help pay for my supplements and healthy lifestyle. Food is expensive, healthy food even more so. My insurance paid for prescriptions but supplements aren't covered under insurance and are very very expensive. My life has been changed by clean foods and supplements so I'm passionate about it. And now, I'm embarking on a new journey back into the wahm world (work at home mom) and I'm so hopeful, and thankful for all that God has done and is doing in my life! I'm truly blessed! And for the name.... well the Hippo is our family "Pet"... if something is missing "The hippo ate it", if someone did something.. "The hippo did it"... it's just a silly thing, but my hubby came up with the Happy Hippos and it was an instant hit! In 2013 I ventured into making cloth menstrual pads for myself since I had been hearing from others that they help with cramping, length of period, and are more comfortable. For the first time in all my life I didn't itch during and for a full week after my period. The irritation was gone. My periods got much less painful too and now I hardly have cramps. I love them! I started making some here and there as special items when my customers would ask. In 2014 I started making them more often. Now I mostly make pads. I find them super rewarding and feel like I can help other ladies and girls. My 3 girls have often sewed with me... Rebecca 12 just started sewing about 6 months ago, but Sarah 11 and Abby 9 have been sewing for a good 3 years. This year in January they started making cloth pads to build a stash for themselves for when they start their cycles... well within weeks they were making them for others. Their skills absolutely amaze me!! I can't even explain how totally awesome it is to have them beside me sewing. We are having a blast!! I'd love it if you'd be a part of our journey!!!!
