The trees are losing their leaves. The autumn color is packing it in. For those of you who long for the vivacity of plants growing merrily, why not start a wee open terrarium for succulents this winter? This little half-orb fits comfortably into this mid century geometric wood display planter. A dwarf aloe or jade is all you need to get a heart tug of gardening joy during these cold months ahead. ; )

Tarnish is a word with many negative connotations, but look at this beautiful tarnish! I’ve been advised to polish silver in order to sell it. But, I’m going my own way with these because I can’t bear to take the polish to that rainbow. Hopefully someone else will feel the same, because I’m listing them as is for now. I hope that time will tarnish me with the same kind of imperfect elegance. ; )

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Do you want my excuse? I’ll sum it up by saying this, we all get in our own way, sometimes. Amirite? Anyway, I’ve had two of these Dope vintage brass articulating desk lamps for a while now. They needed re-wiring and I’m still tweaking some of the hardware. But I’ve been enjoying reading under this one on this perfectly rainy day here in North Carolina. They’ll be available soon in the shop along with several other refurbished vintage brass and chrome lamps. I’m obsessed with lamps and light and their role in the creation of ambience! I hope you will check back soon! And let me know if you want me to hold the pair of these brass beauties for you. Another week and they’ll be finished! 🤞

I love Brutalist decor. But, like, what exactly is it? Ah, the gray area that better describes art than the words that would define/confine it. This mid century Hawaiian lava rock sprouting a dancing/fighting metal human figure is available in the shop. It’s a great piece to ponder what is art? - a question that, when purified and extracted, ‘simply’ becomes what does it all mean? Happy Saturday, lovelies. Life is brutal. Life is beautiful.

Okay, so it’s more glass than metal... but it’s an example of the kind of understated holiday decor that I like. I don’t want hokey unless it’s retro. I don’t want red and green unless it’s art. Ya feel me?

Collect, gather, plunder, salvage, and restore as much gratitude as you can today. Hell, reuse old reasons to be thankful if your skint. Today is a good day for it. I’m thankful for my momma, today. Again. So, instead of spending all day worrying about bellies of beloved ones... I’m going to get to those house chores she mentioned casually those hundred or so times. Haha. Much love, good people. Be blessed or at least try to feel like you are. Or don’t. I’m not the boss of you. ; )

There is still so much texture to delight in out in the forest and fields of autumn and winter 🌾. I love to gather dead, gnarly branches, seed pods still on their stalks, flowers that have dried on the stem, et cetera. And, with gratitude, I note that there are no rampant insects 🦟 or stifling humidity. My home often has little vignettes of dried bouquets and pieces of wood or bark. So, I decided I’d make one for you, dear Instagram folks, in an effort to encourage you to go outside and look at the little things. Be delighted. 🦉These mini brass vases (which can double as candleholders- woot 🙌🏼) are available for sale here or in the shop. There is a huge sale of autumn decor going on there, so get in while you can. Holla if you need me, my people... ; )

This picture of the dope set of vintage brass tulip candle holders in front of this raging paint-by-numbers sea have reminded me of my favorite quote in French - “l'Éternité. C'est la mer allée avec le soleil.” by Arthur Rimbaud. Translated, it means “Eternity. It is the sea gone away with the sun.” I learned it in college while working the dream job at a book store. And as I wonder back to that time, I am again reminded of why it is that I love saving and fostering cool vintage things... and sharing them with you! Now, quit daydreaming (slash digressing) and most over to the shop for these! They never stay around long!

It’s a gloomy day and I’m too sick to do much, so I’m experimenting with some fun photo apps in between naps. This brass 🐘 is ready for a new home... somewhere with sunnier skies preferably. 😉 We also have some cool brass elephant bookends newly listed- I’ll put a pic in stories. I read that the same thing happens in an elephant’s brain when it sees a human as happens to a human’s brain when we see puppies. Does that mean the elephants also suffer from cute aggression? That’s a scary thought given how big they are, but then again... puppies seem to fair okay even when we just want to snuggle and squeeze them a la Elmyra from Tiny Toons. I digress.
