💃🐾 HAPPY DANCE!!! 🐾💃

HOWARD WAS ADOPTED TODAY! 🧡🥳

This sweet, energetic boy finally has his very own human to love him! We couldn’t be happier for Howard. ❤️ He has so much personality and so much love to give, and now he has a family of his very own.

Howard was one of the 30+ cats who made the 7-hour round trip to Bend with us to get spayed/neutered. And now we can proudly say that every kitty old enough for adoption has been completely vetted! 🐾

They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and ready to find their forever families.

We need to get these kitties into loving homes so we can make room for the next cats who need us.

Fill out a adoption application at feralcatawarenessteam.com, then come in and find your furry baby. Adoptions are Monday through Friday 12 to 3

🐾 WHAT A GREAT DAY AT THE FCAT THRIFT SHOP! 🐾

Today was one of those days that reminds us just how amazing our community is. ❤️

Because of the wonderful donations you continue to bring through our doors, we had a fantastic day of sales! Every item purchased helps us continue caring for the many cats who depend on FCAT.

When you donate an item, shop with us, or simply tell someone about our thrift shop, you are helping put food in bowls, paying veterinary bills, providing medications, and giving cats the care they need. 🐱❤️

And we have an important goal for 2027…

We want to put even more of our thrift shop proceeds toward TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) and medical care in our community. The only way we can make a real difference in cat overpopulation is by preventing more kittens from being born while also helping cats who are already here.

So please keep those donations coming!

🐾 OCTOBER 4TH — ONE MORE BIG SPAY/NEUTER TRIP! 🐾

On October 4th, I’ll be making the 7-hour round trip to Bend to have the remaining FCAT cats who are old enough for surgery spayed or neutered.

Once they recover, every FCAT cat will be ready for adoption! ❤️

Our cats are:
✅ Spayed or neutered
✅ Vaccinated
✅ Rabies vaccinated
✅ Vet-checked and ready for their new homes

Here in Douglas County, veterinary care can cost $250+ per cat. At FCAT, our adoption fee is only $75 — and that includes the veterinary care needed to ensure our cats don't go on to produce more unwanted kittens.

🏠 We have house cats looking for families AND barn cats looking for safe working-cat homes.

We desperately need to GET OUR NUMBERS DOWN. Our rescue is full, and adoptions are what allow us to make room for the cats who still need help.

If you've been thinking about adding a cat to your family, please consider adopting from FCAT Thrift Shop — Feral Cat Awareness Team.

Instead of adding another kitten to the overpopulation problem, adopt a cat who is already vetted, fixed and waiting for you. 🐱❤️

Adopt. Don't shop. Help us break the cycle of unwanted kittens.

💕 Something a little… spicy is hitting the thrift shop! 💕

We’re unpacking some beautiful lingerie, sexy corsets, and other gorgeous pieces that were donated to help support our mission.

We put out a big donation of beautiful lingerie 6 months ago that was a huge hit, and now we have another batch ready to make its debut! 👀💋

As soon as I get everything unpacked, sorted, and looking pretty, I’ll be taking pictures so you can see what we have.

Stay tuned… you might just find something fabulous! 😘

And remember—every thrift shop purchase helps us care for the cats of FCAT. 🐾❤️

🖤🎃 BLACK CATS & HALLOWEEN — LET'S TALK ABOUT THE MYTH

Every October, we start seeing the same warning:

“Don't adopt a black cat around Halloween. Someone might use it for a ritual or sacrifice.”

We understand where the concern comes from. People love animals and want to protect them.

But here's the problem:

There is no evidence that black cats are at greater risk of being adopted for ritual abuse or sacrifice because it is Halloween.

Organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society and the ASPCA have addressed these myths, and National Geographic has reported that experts found little evidence supporting the long-standing story of satanic cults sacrificing black cats at Halloween.

So should rescues stop adopting black cats during October?

We don't believe a cat should be denied a loving home because of an unsubstantiated Halloween myth.

Think about what happens when shelters stop adopting black cats for an entire month:

That cat spends another month in a shelter or rescue.

And black cats already face unfair superstitions and can sometimes be overlooked simply because their coloring doesn't stand out as much among other cats. Best Friends has specifically encouraged people to look past those myths and see black cats for what they really are — individual cats looking for loving homes.

🖤 So what should we actually do?

Screen adopters.

Ask questions.
Check references when appropriate.
Follow your normal adoption procedures.
Make sure the adopter understands the responsibility of caring for a cat.

But don't automatically reject a qualified adopter simply because they're adopting a black cat in October.

And there ARE real Halloween safety concerns for cats.

Keep cats safely indoors. Be careful with open doors, costumes, decorations and candy. Halloween can be stressful for pets, and keeping them in a quiet, secure area can help prevent escapes and accidental injuries.

🎃 The scary part isn't a black cat being adopted on Halloween.

The scary part is allowing an old superstition to keep a deserving cat from finding a home.

Black cats aren't evil.
They aren't bad luck.
They aren't Halloween props.

They're cats.

They purr.
They play.
They love.
They need homes.

🖤 Don't let a myth keep a cat in a shelter.

If you are looking to adopt this October, don't overlook the beautiful little panthers waiting for their forever families.

Adopt responsibly. Screen responsibly. And let the facts—not superstition—guide us. 🐈‍⬛🎃
