Body camera footage, details released of shooting involving state trooper in Killingly
Rhode Island authorities had put out a broadcast around 1:20 p.m. on Dec. 30 saying a suspect was wanted in connection with a robbery. The car the suspect was driving was a Mercury Marquis with Connecticut plates.
State police Trooper Joseph Godbout reportedly saw the Mercury at a Mobil gas station on Hartford Pike in the Dayville section of Killingly.
The driver, later identified as Ruben Muller, was outside the car when it was spotted. When Godbout asked for his license, Muller reportedly said he did not have it and took off running across the parking lot toward a Taco Bell restaurant.
Godbout chased after Muller and then discharged his stun gun, according to the report, which caused Muller to fall for a short time before he got back up and continued to run.
The report said that while at the Taco Bell driveway, Muller ran into a truck entering the parking lot and fell again.
Godbout again tried to use a stun gun on Muller, but Muller managed to reach into his ankle and pulled out a revolver, the report stated. It was at that point that Godbout fired one shot that struck Muller in the chest.
