More recently, while designing from my home studio, I have felt a nagging shift in my creative energy, always bringing me back to the Flip Coat.

In 2026, I have decided to really focus my creative efforts on launching the Flip Coat into a more sustainable and intentional practice.

This new business venture means I will be stepping away from designing seasonal collections and instead be dedicating my time and energy into further investing in the production, marketing and sales of what has become my signature design. I hope to cultivate connections with fabulous small shops and boutiques, both locally and internationally – if you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Of course, if you ever have a special request or would like to add something truly unique to your wardrobe, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to collaborate on individual projects and custom garments. As part of this next chapter, I will also continue teaching and mentoring students at Harper College.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have supported my work over the years. From my early collections at ULTIMO, opening and closing two of my own shops, to more recently showing at Cloth + Home, various pop-ups, gallery events, trunk shows, and many collaborations with other independent designers... it has been a wonderful journey — your loyalty and encouragement have meant everything to me.

To celebrate this transition, I’m having a sale in Evanston:

Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31
Coats, dresses, tops, jackets, and cashmeres will be 50% off – more details coming soon, please save the dates.

With my deepest thanks for your continued support, I wish you all a peaceful, creative, and safe year ahead.

With Love,
Andrea XX

Discover the Art of Wearable Design at ALMA Gallery: Meet 17 Visionary Designers & Explore New Collections

Dear Friends and Supporters,
As you might remember, we are Material is a collective of clothing and accessory designers who are committed to creative practices that redefine the intersection of artisanal tradition with contemporary silhouettes. In artistic spaces such as ALMA Gallery, we curate experiential gatherings that address various aspects of design practices. We believe that audiences, friends and supporters benefit from meaningful dialogue with the designers. Come and meet 17 of these unique designers and have an opportunity to not only talk to them but add one or more of their creations to your wardrobe!

What You Will Experience:
Meet the Makers: Engage in personal conversation with the designers about their process and inspiration.

Discover the Details: See, feel, and try on pieces that embody a philosophy of timeless design and secret details waiting to be discovered.

A Wardrobe Investment: Have the exclusive opportunity to add one-of-a-kind, handcrafted creations to your personal collection.

A Philosophy of Style (My Personal Invitation to You)
I believe in timeless design and secret details that need to be discovered. I work in quality fabrics of natural and hi-tech fibers. Shapes are architectural and modern, complimenting the curves of a body. I believe in handcrafting, repurposing, and working in a synergy of style and proportion. The designs are for wise women and curiously discreet men of any age.

I look forward to personally welcoming you, sharing my latest work, and discussing how we bring the intersections of style and comfort to life.

Warmly,
Andrea Xx

My latest project/collaboration – I made costumes for a video created by artist Sandra Binion, which premiered at the D’Orsay Museum in Paris just last week! Dans la lumière d'Harriet Backer was inspired by the paintings of Harriet Backer, as part of a festival program in conjunction with the exhibition "Harriet Backer (1845-1932): La mystique des couleurs". Watch the full video below.

After taking part in a group fashion show, curated by Cloth+Home (Evanston) during Chicago Fashion Week in October, I was honored to be highlighted in The Chicago Reader!

"There were many impressive moments on the runway, but the highlight was a collection presented by Andrea Reynders, a professor emeritus at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and cofounder of the We Are Material designer collective. Her designs give the wearer freedom to move, in versatile styles that can be worn by different body types in multiple ways. Reynders's creations point to the future of womens wear, where comfort and elegance are not exclusive and one size fits many."
