We lost Trevor today.

And my heart hurts.

We did everything we could for him. We loved him, cared for him, watched over him, and when he needed us, we fought as hard as we could for him.

But today, we had to say goodbye.

There’s a kind of sadness that comes with losing an animal you see every single day. They quietly become part of your routines, your mornings, your chores, your home. You get so used to their little face being there that it’s hard to imagine looking out tomorrow and not seeing it.

Trevor was part of Briarwood. More importantly, he was part of our family.

He was loved every single day he was here, and I hope somehow he knew just how much.

Our little farm feels different tonight. A little quieter and a whole lot sadder.

We’re going to miss you so much, Trevor.

You were a very loved little goat.

I’ve decided I’m going to teach myself how to quilt.

Because apparently raising animals, growing things and constantly finding new projects around here wasn’t enough. I needed a quiet little hobby that could also potentially destroy my sanity.

Here’s where we’re starting:
I own a sewing machine.
I can sew a straight-ish line.
And I have an unreasonable amount of confidence for someone with absolutely no idea what she’s doing.

But I have visions of cozy handmade quilts stacked around the house, thrown over the backs of chairs, and someday being able to say, “Oh, that old thing? I made it.”

So, quilting ladies, I need you.

What is ONE thing you wish someone had told you before you made your first quilt?

Give me the tricks. The shortcuts. The mistakes. The things that almost made you throw your sewing machine into the yard.

My goal is 30 pieces of advice before I start cutting fabric and become a danger to myself and the quilting community.
