My mom married in 1954. She still has her wedding dress. It got yellow, but even worse the box she had stored it in got wet and the color dye off the box got on the dress. It had buttons all the way down the back. On her 50th wedding anniversary I took her dress home with me,and threw it in the washer, on gentle, with mild detergent. I know it's scary, right? It came out beautiful. No more stains and the yellowing color was gone. I hung up to dry and steamed out the wrinkles. When she arrived at their anniversary party, the dress was full display. I placed a dress form on a round table in middle of room with dress on it. I draped the lace arms in a way that it looked like she was coming down the aisle with her little white bible that had flowers on it. She originally carried this little white bible with flowers at her wedding. The table was draped with a white linen table cloth that touched the floor. I placed pictures and flowers all the way around the bottom of the dress. It looked beautiful. Everyone that came in would go to that table and walk around in admiration. They would Comment on how tiny her waist was, my father beaming with pride on how beautiful she was on her wedding day and how beautiful she is now. They both cried just a little and the dress has since made its way back to mom's closet waiting for its next adventure. Does anyone have a picture of that from their anniversary?
