the luna moth is so beautiful but so fragile and ephemeral: adults don’t even have functional mouth parts because their lives are so short after their final molt.

this shawl has been a labor of love, been in ‘knitting time out’ for months while i pondered how best to attach the eye spots. longer than an actual luna moth’s life span. after that, i found the tassels in my nana’s sewing box and they simply begged to be part of the whole night butterfly party.

please ignore my very messy floor/workspace (floorkspace?) but how gorgeous is this skirt? it reminds me of a hot chocolate with whipped cream and caramel and dark chocolate shavings.

how lucky am i? stopped into on a whim, found a $5 ball of wool-acrylic roving. i did a because those beautiful crimps made me suspect there was some actual content here—burnt hair smell confirms YES, this is really wool! the black melted bead reveals some plastic content, too, but i’m still tickled because just—LOOK at how big it is!

i don’t think i’m exaggerating when i say this is a pound, sixteen ounces, of fiber or more. the braid is bigger than my head.

this fiber must have been meant for a right? oh well, because i see it becoming miles and miles of worsted… no, maybe sock-weight, or maybe bulky? the thing is, i could probably spin an ounce of every weight and still have fiber left over.

knitting and crochet are different arts with different applications. don’t let crochet’s sturdy, structural reputation fool you: it can make for some wonderful accents to knitted pieces!

i’m working my way through “knitting & crochet together” by monette lassiter satterfield. these are the ‘winter vest’ and ‘sassy summer shrug’ in caron simply soft, heathers and tweed, ‘grey heather’ and ‘off white’. buttons were inherited.

i’ve been obsessed with this shell pattern lately, so made a few of these peter pan collars. i think this one is my favorite. any guesses what color i found in my yarn stash?
