Deep in the canals of Xochimilco, Mexico, sits a man-made island covered in hundreds of decaying, hanging dolls. 🛶 Legend says they were hung to appease the spirit of a drowned girl... but the true story remains whispered in the fog 🧸

A Southern fantasy film-set town was built for a story.

Then the cameras left.

The chapel stayed.
The shoes stayed.
The goats moved in.

Jackson Lake Island is now available from Fog Alley’s Backlot Cinema Archives.

A wearable story from the place where the set kept living.

New Fog Alley release is here: Jackson Lake Island.

Inspired by the real film-set town in Millbrook, Alabama, where weathered porches, hanging shoes, a white chapel, and wandering goats still make the place feel caught between memory and movie magic.

Part of the Backlot Cinema Archives collection.

A movie town was built here, then the story moved on.
On Jackson Lake Island in Millbrook, Alabama, the fictional Town of Spectre from Big Fish still waits beneath the trees. The porches remain. The chapel still sits at the end of the road. Shoes hang overhead. Goats wander where actors once stood.

It is not quite abandoned anymore, and not quite ordinary either.
It is one of those rare places where the set became its own strange little afterlife.

Long before Central Florida’s tourist corridor felt polished, Highway 192 was lined with neon motels, roadside attractions, gator shows, gift shops, and strange little landmarks made to stop passing cars.

In Kissimmee, one giant ruled the strip: the roadside gator tied to Alligatorland Safari Zoo, later JungleLand.

The zoo is gone now. The gator is gone too. But the story still has teeth.

New Fog Alley story: Alligator Safari Zoo, Kissimmee, Florida.
