That is the Ao Dai Museum (Long Thuan Street, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City) built by fashion designer Sy Hoang and inaugurated in 2014.
Officially put into operation since January 22, 2014, the Ao Dai Museum is a place to display the story of the Vietnamese Ao Dai throughout the history of the country. At the same time, the Museum is like a rare database that gathers images, artifacts, and valuable documents about Ao Dai.
The space at the Ao Dai Museum is an open architectural complex, connected to nature, evoking many emotions about traditional cultural values of which Ao Dai is the subject. The Ao Dai Museum has the typical features of Vietnamese architecture, a fusion between the ancient house style of Quang Nam and the typical mark of the Mekong Delta region, reminiscent of the Vietnamese space, a place that nurtures traditional values that are old but never old. With a space of 20,000m2, the Ao Dai Museum gathers many clusters of works using local materials in close combination with the natural landscape, contributing to reflecting the lifestyle and gentle, open-minded soul of the Vietnamese people. Surrounding the exhibition houses, communal houses, theaters and experience areas of the Museum is a cool green campus with the beauty of the Southern ecosystem. Next to the pond, garden, banyan tree, and boat dock is a lively garden scene. All create an impressive, poetic space and show a deep cultural mark. The Ao Dai Museum is a place to display artifacts and stories of the Ao Dai from its inception along with changes in social life, historical years, and its association with Vietnamese women. This is also a place to organize cultural and artistic events to display unique works about Ao Dai. Not only that, visitors can also experience the stages of designing, sewing, embroidering Ao Dai, design and draw their own Ao Dai as desired and choose beautiful Ao Dai to try on. The museum displays collections by theme such as: 17th century four-panel Ao Dai, 18th century five-panel Ao Dai, Nguyen Dynasty Ao Dai from the 19th century... There are also many Ao Dai associated with famous names in many fields of culture, politics, diplomacy such as: Heroine of the Armed Forces Nguyen Thi Dinh, former Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh... In addition, there are many international award-winning costumes by designer Si Hoang himself, along with more than 3,000 images of Vietnamese women in traditional Ao Dai. The museum has been preserving many cultural heritages of the country. Besides the exhibition space about the history of Ao Dai, Ao Dai of characters who have contributed to the country in many fields, there are also exhibition spaces specializing in "Ao Dai as cultural heritage", "Bau Truc Pottery"... The museum focuses on promoting Ao Dai closer to the public at home and abroad. The museum focuses on introducing “Ao Dai associated with unique intangible cultural heritages of Vietnam that have been recognized by UNESCO as representative of humanity: Quan Ho, Vi Giam, Don Ca Tai Tu…
