EPISODE 1: Why I Acquired Something for Wedding in 2022 when I wasn’t initially a bridal designer
The truth is, the story didn’t begin in 2022. It began years earlier.
👗2016 — A Place That Felt Different
Back in 2016, I first discovered Something for Wedding while looking for a dress.
At the time, I was active in the Female Expats in Saigon community. Having spent nearly ten years studying abroad in the United States, I understood what it felt like to be new in a foreign country. Whenever I met women who were unfamiliar with life in Saigon, I naturally enjoyed helping them settle in, answering questions, and pointing them toward places I trusted.
Many of those conversations eventually led us to Something for Wedding.
For me, it became more than just a bridal shop. It was a warm, welcoming space where women from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds came together. Every visit reminded me that weddings are not only about dresses—they’re about people, stories, and new beginnings.
At the time, I had no idea this place would one day become part of my own story.
🪴2018 — A Seed Was Planted
Two years later, I found myself back at the shop during one of the most challenging periods of my professional life.
I wasn’t looking to buy a business. I was simply looking for inspiration and relaxed.
During one of our conversations, the owner mentioned that she had been thinking about selling the business. It was just a passing conversation, but something about it stayed with me. I tucked the idea away, never imagining that I would revisit it years later.
⏱️2022 — The Right Time
In 2022, another major career transition brought me back to Something for Wedding once again.
This time, things had changed.
The business had been partially acquired by another owner, and together they had been carrying the weight of running the shop. It wasn’t an easy business, and despite all the effort they had invested, it wasn’t generating the results they had hoped for.
They were ready to let it go. Standing there, I realized something. This wasn’t simply a business for sale. It was an opportunity waiting for someone who believed in what it could become.
Many people saw a struggling bridal shop. I saw a foundation. A place with history. A place that had already brought together a lot of foreign women. A place with the potential to become something even greater.
So I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I acquired Something for Wedding. At that moment, I wasn’t buying a successful business. I was buying a dream that hadn’t yet been fully realized.
Looking back now, I realize I wasn’t just taking over a bridal shop. I was taking the first step toward building what would eventually become MICHELLE’s Maison.
Every gown has a story. Every business has a beginning.
Thank you for being part of mine. Thank you for following MICHELLE’s Maison as we continue this journey, one chapter at a time.
With your highest love,
Michelle Thư Nguyễn
