Over the past few years, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what it truly means to build a brand.
Not just a successful brand.
Not just a product people buy.
But a brand ecosystem that genuinely creates impact, shifts culture, and makes people feel seen.
What I’ve come to realise is that one brand alone could never fully hold the vision I had.
That’s why both HINE and IA ORIGIN exist today.
HINE was built from a deeply personal place. It was created to challenge an industry that too often overlooked women, especially women who didn’t fit traditional standards. What started as activewear became something much bigger - a community, a movement, and a space where women could feel inspired, represented, and confident in who they are.
IA ORIGIN came from another realisation that inclusivity in movement shouldn’t stop at women. That performance, identity, representation, and belonging should exist for everybody.
While the two brands serve different purposes, they are connected by the same foundation:
community, culture, identity, movement, and creating change through representation.
For a while, I questioned whether both brands could coexist.
Now I truly believe they need to. Because together, they allow us to build something far more powerful than clothing.
An ecosystem.
One that creates space for women through HINE.
One that pushes the future of inclusive performance globally through IA ORIGIN.
One that proves brands can grow without losing their humanity, their purpose, or their connection to community.
We are still early in this journey.
There have been challenges, pivots, lessons, and moments where we’ve had to rebuild from the ground up.
But I believe some of the most meaningful brands are built exactly that way.
Not overnight.
Not perfectly.
But with vision, resilience, and people at the centre of everything.
My goal has never been to simply create clothing products.
It’s to build globally recognised brands from Aotearoa that stand for something bigger and to show that businesses rooted in purpose, inclusivity, culture, and community can compete on the world stage too.
This is only the beginning.
