Love these 🌼🌸🌿

I spent some time working on my hand powered knitting machine this week. These bright colours of wool are from our yarn stock, that we have collected over the years.

The sun is highlighting all of the different colours that went into making this yellow/gold wool so vibrant. Tiny flecks of red & green can be seen blended together with browns and yellows. This creates a gorgeous, rich tone that cannot be achieved in a solid dyed yarn.

When knitted into a garment, these flecks of colour stand out even more, adding a unique pattern into your knitwear 🌟

Yair wool hats.

We have knitted our new collection of Yair hats with a combination of industry surplus marled wools, and stunning colours from Supersoft range.

The Yair is a timeless design, inspired by nature. We have knitted them in limited numbers, as our aim is to turn our yarn stock into useful, cosy hats.

Each hat has been knitted on our hand powered knitting machine, linked on our 1940's Hague linker, and finally hand sewn by our team in Kelso. A good wool hat will last you a lifetime of adventures, and we are excited to share these with you!

Linking...

I love the process of linking as it creates a space for me to slow down and tune into the repetitive, rhythmic action. I am using our original Ben Hague circa 1948, who we call Hank, to link our new collection of Yair wool hats.

After knitting the fabric on my 1980's handflat machine, I match every stitch to an individual needle on the linker. This turns the flat piece of knitted fabric into a circle, taking shape as a hat. Hank then runs a chain link stitch along the seam to bind the two sides together.

For this year's collection of Yair hats, I have chosen some unique marls from our stock of industry surplus wool, alongside colours from the supersoft range by . They are now on our website in very limited numbers, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do 💫

Stocked up The National Wallace Monument 🤩

We've just finished a bright & cheery order of hats for the gift shop at The Wallace Monument in Stirling.

Including Heilan' Coo's, Thistles & Wonky hats, each hat has been individually created by our team of skiller makers in Kelso.

The Scottish Wool Mark 💙

We were recently invited to the depot in Selkirk, alongside , to launch the new Scottish Wool mark.

Since 1972, wool grown in Britain has been identified by the Shepherds Crook symbol, and now it's time to get even more specific and identify the Scottish sheep too.

As a small knitwear manufacturer, we work with crofters and farmers, turning their wool stock into beautiful, natural products. The Scottish wool logo can be used by affilliates to authenticate products, which helps to tell the story of the garment.

At the British Wool depot, farmers bring their wool to be graded and sorted into breed type and origin. Then it is spun into yarn, before arriving with us to be knitted. This keeps all stages of product development & manufacturing within the UK, helping to support the local economy.

Wool prices are at a 10 year high right now, which is great news for the farmers and the wool industry. As more people take an intetest in how their clothes are made, and decide to choose wool, we will continue to see this natural, sustainable resource thrive again 🙌🐑

Border Terrier Obsessed! 🐾

We have an embroidery machine! Now we can embroider & knit Ruaridh Dog onto everything! 😂🙌

The first product we have created with our new machine are these Border Terrier caps. The clay & navy caps are made from corduroy cotton, and the green & khaki are a cotton twill. Both have buckle fastenings on the back, so you can adjust the size easily.

Ruaridh Dog is our pioneer pattern with this machine. We converted our dog design from our knitted bobble hats, into tiny stitches for embroidery.

These caps are now online, so if you too are obsessed with your BT, you can rep your favourite dog on walkies all year round! 😍
