Stinkhorn mushrooms are one of nature’s most elegant contradictions. A foul smell wrapped in a delicate lacy skirt.

Their life cycle is incredibly fast. They rise, unfurl their lacy veil, and begin to fade within hours.

Known as the bamboo fungus in some Asian cultures, their net is dried and used in soups and hot pots. But once the fungus matures enough to emit an odor, they’re off the menu!

Lavender earrings and necklace, sterling silver with purple nano-ceramic accents.

The Latin root -lavare- which means “to wash” was probably derived in conjunction with this plant. Infusions of lavender were once used to scent laundered clothes. Today, lavender oil is used in a myriad of food and wellness products for its scent, but also for its therapeutic properties as an anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, and antiseptic.

The weather here in DC is about to turn cold and soon all the ginkgo trees will have lost their gorgeous yellow leaves. Come see us at the in front of the Portrait Gallery and try on these ginkgo earrings. We have three pairs left!

Cordyceps mushroom rings are my favorite to sculpt. First I make the squiggly mushrooms in soft green wax. Then I twist and stretch them around a finger.

As I work, it’s hard to tell where the design is going, it almost feels like they come together by themselves.

The last photo is of the Cordyceps mushrooms we bought at a pharmacy in China earlier this year. The black part is the fungus and the tan part is the host worm species.

To ingest the medicine you make a tea from one worm and its fungus, drink it and then swallow the whole piece. It improves the immune system, and helps with respiratory and kidney function. The first written record of their use as medicine came during the Tang dynasty, circa 600 CE.

Found some hydrangea flowers all dried and crispy on my mother’s hydrangea bush and made some earrings out of them. The process doesn’t work with the fresh flowers. Also, we finally took some pictures and have a few new items available in the shop. Happy Sunday!
