Dolly - the queen of statement earrings and larger than life fashion. Her ‘more is more’ attitude resonates with me when I’m wearing my OTT dangly earrings and gold glitter collar to do some grocery shopping.

One of my favourite Dolly Parton stories has nothing to do with her music — it’s about her earrings.

Her longtime creative director, Steve Summers, once revealed that Dolly used to wear real jewellery. But whenever someone told her they loved her earrings, she would simply take them off and give them to them.

He’d remind her, “Those were real diamonds!” Dolly would just shrug.

Eventually, they started giving her costume jewellery instead.

There’s something so wonderfully Dolly about that — bold, generous and completely unattached to the price tag.

Maybe the best kind of statement earring is the one that makes someone else smile.
