Cape Town's cruise industry is making waves.

The 2024/25 season was the city's biggest yet, welcoming 83 vessel calls (up from 67 the previous season), contributing R1.79 billion to the Western Cape economy and supporting more than 2,300 jobs.

Today, South Africa celebrates Mandela Day on Nelson Mandela’s birthday, 18 July 1918, honouring his lifelong commitment to justice, dignity, reconciliation and service.

Cape Town continues to prove why it is one of the world's leading business destinations.

For the 11th consecutive year, Cape Town has retained its position as Africa's leading convention destination in the latest 2025 ICCA rankings, hosting 55 international association meetings. Stellenbosch also ranked among Africa's top 10 convention destinations.

This is more than an accolade. It reflects a region that continues to attract global business, investment, innovation and talent through world-class infrastructure, research capabilities and strong public-private partnerships.

Another wonderful Nordic Second Thursday!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for another fantastic evening of conversation, connection, and community.

One of the things we love most about these gatherings is the incredible mix of people they bring together. Every month is different, with fresh faces, familiar friends, diverse perspectives, and conversations that range from belly laughs and personal stories to big ideas, future collaborations, and everything in between.

International arrivals have increased by 12.8% in the first five months of 2026, with more than 4.2 million visitors choosing South Africa. Growth from across Africa, Europe and Brazil, together with new airline routes and improved connectivity, is making it easier than ever for the world to experience everything our country has to offer.

South Africa's agricultural sector continues to go from strength to strength!

South Africa has officially joined the world's top 30 agricultural exporting nations, with exports reaching $13.6 billion in 2024 and climbing to a record $15.1 billion in 2025.

While the rest of Africa is now South Africa's largest export market, it is encouraging to see exports to the European Union remain strong, accounting for 16% of agricultural exports, alongside growing demand across Asia and the Middle East.

For Nordic House and our members, this is another positive signal of the growing trade and investment opportunities between South Africa and the Nordics. From food and agriculture to innovation and sustainability, the potential for collaboration continues to grow.
